“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips.” — Psalm 141:3
A simple show of hands would indicate how many are so thankful for God’s mighty protection over our lives. Thankful for the negative people he has removed, unhealthy relationships, streets we wanted to occupy that had dead ends. I thought about all the times God has protected me from others, but recently have recognized God’s greatest work has actually been shielding me from me.
We give way too much credit to the enemy for creating thoughts in our mind that we conjure up on our own. Some of us are our own worst enemy. I’m not qualified. I don’t have what it takes. What will people think about me? What if, what if, what if? We have all had these thoughts, but our daily prayer should include the words we speak being based on who God says we are, not who we think we aren’t.
He has always seen us as the greatest version of ourselves — the kind we often can’t recognize. What would our week look like if we began to speak every word from God’s perspective rather than our own? Speaking life into every circumstance, victory over every battle, confidence into every situation, peace into every uncertainty.
For one day, let’s be intentional to look at every single situation through the lens of God and let the words that flow from us come directly from the One who created us. Protect us Lord from our voices and let us only hear yours.
